This exquisite New Year's Card was sent from India during the First World War. It is a 3 Dimensional pop-up card, in full colour with great details. The pop-up scene shows an elephant bearing a beautiful lady in a curtained carriage, accompanied by Indian soldiers on horseback, wearing ceremonial costume. To either side there are scenes of trees, lions and spectators. There is a verse inside which reads: "A card here from Jumbo so good and true hearted, whom people from England and Alice have parted, He does not forget it, and sends this to say, Good Luck and a prosperous New Year today!" The card is a new acquisition from the collection of 15224 Private F W Legg who was killed in Mesopotamia whilst serving with the 1st/4th Battalion The Dorsetshire Regiment.
