How We Can Help
Fees for research are levied on a not-for-profit basis and are used to fund the conservation and maintenance of the museum and its archives, as well as covering costs incurred. The charge for an initial enquiry is £15.00 which must be paid in advance. This is based on one hour of research for relevant information and the preparation of a helpful and if possible informative response. If our researcher thinks that additional work is necessary he or she will contact you with a quotation for further research.
Please allow between 2 - 8 weeks for a reply. We try to reply as quickly as possible but it does depend on how busy our researchers are and how easy it is to find the information you seek.
We can sometimes arrange a personal visit if we hold a lot of relevant information but our archives and library are not open to the public so visitors need to be accompanied by a researcher. Appointments are normally made for a Wednesday (Dorset) or a Thursday morning (Devon). Please contact us at least 2 weeks in advance to arrange this. We may advise a written reply if we feel that we do not have sufficient information to justify an archive visit. Archive visits are charged at £20 for the first hour and £10 per hour after that, and can last between 1 and 3 hours.
