The Devonshire & Dorset Regiment

The Devonshire and Dorset Regiment

The badge is made up of two elements from each of the old Devonshire and old Dorset badges:

  • Devonshire - Exeter Castle, with the motto 'Semper Fidelis' (Ever Faithful);
  • Dorset - A Sphinx on a tablet Marabout above the motto 'Primus in Indus' (First in India).

An eight pointed star surmounted by a royal crown, with a centre of Exeter Castle surrounded by a circlet with the legend 'The Devonshire Regiment'.

The Dorsetshire Regiment

The Dorsetshire Regiment

Gibraltar Castle with the 'Key to the Mediterranean', surmounted with a Marabout Sphinx, surrounded by the Waterloo wreath and the title 'Dorset' (post 1953).

The Queen's Own Dorset Yeomanry

Centre of initials Q and O (Queen's Own), titled scroll inscribed 'Dorset' and initial Y (Yeomanry), in a garter circlet with motto surmounted by a royal crown. The whole is surrounded by a double laurel wreath.

The Devonshire Regiment - Officers' Capbadge

A centre of the mailed fist of the Royal Armoured Corps, superimposed on crossed carbine and cavalry sabre. Circlet inscribed Tu ne cede malis' (Yield not to Misfortune - family motto of the Dawson Damer family of Came Park, Dorchester), surmounted with a Queen's crown. Scroll emblazoned 'Dorset Yeomanry'.
